Pet Sitting

cyclonegirl Aug 18, 2003 06:02 PM

Hi, I've got a firebellied toad. I am going away and want to know if anyone one knows what to do with my pets. Should I give them to a neighbor or find a frogsitter. If I should send them to a frogsitter do you know of a place in Morris county, New Jersey.

Find a friend or family member that you would trust with your life. make sure to write down detailed instructions about feeding, giving them water, temperature, etc.
Maybe there are some pet-sitting companies in our area, if you cannot find someone to watch the frogs for you. I'd look in the phone book. Wherever you leave them, make sure you give detailed, written instructions!

Call around and see if you have a perp vet in your area. Some times vet offices will do boarding and if not, will have resources for you on who to call.

Maybe you can clarify something for me. I don't know if I mis-read something or if you're not being real straight in your posts. On 8/18/03 you posted that you were thinking of getting a FBT but weren't sure and on 8/19/03 you said you were almost positive you were getting an FBT and asked about substrate.

Why, then, on 8/18/03 are you posting that you are going on vacation and need someone to watch your FBT while you're gone. It looks like you didn't think very much about the well-being of this toad because you bought it, then asked questions about how to care for it, while planning a vacation.

Sorry for the confusion. I was planning ahead. I was going to get my FBTs on Friday then go on vacation the following weekend. Now I have decided to get them after I come home from vacation.

I should of said: When I go on vacation what should I do with my toads?

This my not make sense but I am SO sorry.

My deepest apologies,
Cyclonegirl

It's a much, much better idea to do that. I mean, vacations happen, but if you can wait for the toads or be able to have someone very dependable care for them, it's much better.

DEFINITELY best to wait until you come back. I've read too many stories from people who have left their froggies with "friends" only to come back and find sick or dead babies You can never be too careful when finding someone to look after your critters. I'm going to be going to visit family in a couple months and I'm even nervous about leaving my husband in charge LOL I've started with him now with taking care of cleanings and feedings so that he'll be ready.

Ha, and you think I'd leave my boyfriend in charge? He'd forget to treat the water or something like that, I can almost assure myself of it.

The only people who you can trust to do this are people who do it anyway and already know the daily protocol of it, in my opinion.
