Hoping to breed next year

BlackDahlia Jul 15, 2007 02:17 AM

Next season im planning to breed my female Amel with a male im hoping to get from a show in a couple of weeks. I know females should be 1.5 - 2 years and 300 grams before breeding, so my question is what age and weight should a male be before breeding?
This will be my frist attemp at breeding so any advice or helpful tips would be greatly appreciated :]

Males usually can be smaller than females but I wouldn't try less than 1.5 years (IE to breed in '08 you want an '06 or older)

I don't know about grams - I think a well fed corn 30 inches long should be fine - whatever it translates to into grams. Properly fed for the length I think is more important, a 300g snake can be underfed and possibly not advisable to breed if it is long.

My '06 hatched in August and is already about 27 inches.

Also - I think some localities (IE Miami) are naturally smaller and breed smaller.

That's what I was going to say too...a well fed male will almost always be breedable at 18 months.

A year and a half for a female is extremely young. It goes in three's! 3 years old, 3', and 300 grams. Males can be less.
