ok k my boa has been with a male for 10 months and have gone through the temperture changes from being outside in a shed. now i havent seen any mating but yesterday while cleaning the cage i noticed two huge like balls on one side of her a little more than half way of her boddy. she is also starting to shed. she wont eat. and is pissed off all the time...unhandable...im new to boas so im asking for help...is she???

Still showing any interest in her? Did you notice her have an ovulation? How much did she swell?

Too difficult to ever know for sure. Half the time its an educated guess with the animals sitting right in front of us.

Do a search on the forum to look for threads regarding this topic. You should find some with pix and you can compare.

OK, With the info provided.......

First:
Just because you put a male and female together, that doesn't mean you'll get babies. Of course, even as a newbie, you knew that.

Second:
You say, "have gone through the temperture changes from being outside in a shed". I don't know if that sounds too good. Outside in a shed??? What are the conditions in this "shed". You don't even want to know the images the "shed" thing puts in my brain. LOL. Does it have heat if it gets too cold? Does it have a way of being cooled if it gets to hot? Could it be you live in a perfect climate and you don't need to worry about either?? Lets figure it's the perfect climate senario. If your boas are correctly sexed, in excellent health, appropriate ages and sizes..... Then it's very likely she could be gravid. Of course, I was figuring in "perfect climate". If you don't have perfect climate...... Then it's a "hit or miss" deal. Unless you've seen an ovulation.... figure she's not gravid.

Well, I get images of "golf balls" stuck to the side of your boa. A picture would have been very useful in this case. A gravid boa won't have "balls" on their side. Sometimes a gravid boa will have a "lumpiness" to them. Also if what you saw was an ovulation it wouldn't have been on her side. It would have looked like she swallowed a "football" or the entire last 1/3 of her body would have been swollen and she would have looked very uncomfortable.
I don't know what to make of the "balls" you saw.

Fourth: You said, "she is also starting to shed". Now if what you saw was an ovulation then..... This "could" be a Post Ovulation Shed. Which means she's just now become gravid. You have to count 105 days after the shed", or about that, for a due date. Now don't get too excited. Sometimes a shed is just a "shed". And they're living in a shed. LOL. Sorry. I just sort of felt that was a little ironic.

Fifth: You said, "she wont eat. and is pissed off all the time...unhandable"

During breeding season, "some boas" will go off feed. This doesn't meant she's gravid, but it could. As far as the "pissed" goes....... Some boas just have cranky days. It could be the shed thing.

Any chances of getting a better idea of this "shed" situation? It doesn't sound like the best situation, but maybe the picture I'm getting in my head doesn't match how your boas are in the shed.

Is your girl gravid??? Could be or maybe she's not. A picture is more helpful. More background info is helpful. Knowing if you have a sexual pair is extremely helpful. BTW sometimes, even experienced breeders, accidently have two of the same sex boas together. It happens.

If you don't have proper conditions in the shed......

The symptoms you've described could also mean she's "sick". Hopefully, that's not the case. I just thought I'd mention it, since you're new to boas.
