2006 Chocolate Cal King

Kerby... Jul 15, 2007 02:45 PM

I produced this guy last year. I bred the same parents again this year. Hope I get a female this year. I will be breeding this guy next year to a few females.

Real close to producing these guys in larger numbers.

That almost looks like a Nitida?

But the mommy is a Blizzard. And a Blizzard is 1/2 albino and 1/2 Mendota (hypermelanistic).

Last year I bred a Blizzard male to a Mendota female and got ALL hypermelanistics (het albino). They looked just like the Mendotas. So I know that the hypermelanism comes from the Mendota.......and I also bred a Mendota to a Davis this year to see if it is the same hypermelanistic gene...I think it is, we shall see.

Now is the hypermelanistic Baja the same gene as the Mendotas? Could be....

Yeah,
I can see the Mendota influence, the reason I mentioned Nitida is the solid line between the dorsal and ventral scales. Do the Mendotas have the same lines on each side of the ventral scales as well? Are you working with any pure Davis, Mendota, Nitida, and Conjunctas? I'm having a hard time finding people working with the Baja Kings, and only a few people working with the Mendotas and Davis Cals. I love the Chocolate Cals. I hope yours turn out as nice as the one that JETZEN used to post pics of. That boy was a screamer!

Yes they do, so do the Chocolate Bananas.
