My babies sick, Cancer? growths

Melinda666 Jul 15, 2007 03:46 PM

This fella has been off feed for the last couple months. He bred a couple girls last season. One of which laid eggs. I gave him a quick check and noticed this mess. He was fine through the breeding season. It doesn't appear to be a prolapsed hemipenes, they probe where they should be. It also doesn't appear to be prolapsed rectum, when examined the tissue does not tuck back in, rectum feels normal. Ack! don't ask me how I found that out. Swelling in cloaca area, mostly on the right side, some granulation type tissue as well. Yes, I am taking him to the Vet, but would like to get everyone's opinion too.

Thank you for your help. This fella loves to dump his waterbowl, so I'm thinking wet newspaper may have caused this. I've got to find some kind of water bowls they can't dump.

Try ceramic bowls, they have worked for me.Terry

I have this critter-creeper bowl i think it is, it looks like a rock but has the inside cut-out for water, not only is it heavy but it is also wider at the base so it is impossible to spill over. I think they only cost about 10 bucks or so.

Good luck!

personally I would get that ball to a vet. If it is a cancerous or any kind of growth, a vet will be needed to access and identify it. If it is a swelling of the vent region the cause may not be easily treatable by just a topical anti-biotic. I also don't think probing and pushing tissues would have helped the matter either.

I have seen this before in a breeding male. He looks to have localized inflammation probably from over breeding or possibly getting his hemipen injured during breeding.
Neosporin once a day, kept warm on paper towel is the treatment I would provide.
