gettting started in the breeding biz

artbilly Jul 17, 2007 02:36 AM

yes, i recently purchased 2 norm females from a co. in cali, at around 500 grams each, and a blackback ringer fem outta fl., and gotta whitebelly male coming from chicago!Da Bears!lol! and a pastel female from maine, and a pastel male from fl., i still haven't built rack yet. Gonna go to home depot and look at their "barrs racks" that are supposed to be sufficent. I know its quite a bit of males, in the female-male ratio, but i figured it should be a good start, since my gf told me i "COULD BUY ONE" any help, advice, guidance, would be cool. I have kept snakes before, but never attemtped breeding. Thanks guys

You have a long way till those females will be ready, thy need to really be 1500 grams apiece, Do a some internet searches on the actual breeding season there is a huge amount of info on the whole process. I am not sure what "racks" at home depot you are talking about, make sure they are escape proof and they have proper heating and humidity and you should be good. Maybe post a pic of the rack you are talking about. Congrats on the new ones coming.

yeah, they are just the, wire racks, that you can purchase shelfs, and put them at any hight, and weave the flexwat heat tape in and out of on the one side, they simply, are metal bars alround, and adjust to your needs, i was talking to scott michaels fromt he classes and saw his example of his flexwat thingy! email me at artbilly@hotmail.com and i can give you the exact ad i am talking about

Dude I want to get a little breeding project together myself. So I go to the internet and research. First thing I find out is always have your females first. It takes at least two years of age for them to be ready. Males are ready in one year so you should of bought them next year. Basically you will be feeding and housing your males for an extra year. You seem like you have the right intentions but not the proper experience or research. I am a contractor, home depot sucks for everything. If you want to get started in the biz go purchase some freedom breeders or vision racks. I do not mean to be harsh, just some harsh realities.Good luck

lets see if this picture works out, maybe it will, maybe it wont, but this will be the rack that i am gonna start out with, till i find out how to make my own, or can afford a freedom breeder, or settle for a vision.
