New female IJ python /green stool

iant Jul 17, 2007 08:47 AM

I picked up a pair of IJ carpets this weekend, the male is awsome and the guy through in the female said she hadnt ate since feb. With saying that she is dehydrated and is being soaked once a day and montiored for changes in behavior. She is alert and responsive, But i did notice her stool was bright green! Has any one else delt with this? Oh and he had told me she was breed and dropped eggs earlier this year. Any ideas?

There are several possible explanations, such as liver disease. However, the long period without food is the most likely reason. A green stool is common in snakes that have not eaten for several months. The color is caused by bile secretions mixing with the white urates in the cloaca before defecation. In a well-fed snake, the green bile is present but concealed in the black intestinal wastes.

The remedy, of course, is to get the snake feeding again. Good luck.

Hey thanks you for the help! I need to get her rehydrated and from there we'll start the feeding process again, I have been keeping her warmer at a consistent temp. I just dont think she has been taken care of well. The dealer said she had dropped eggs this year but even being thin she seems kinda small to breed " 3-4ft" im dont sure, But lets hope things pan out she's a good looking IJ. thanks again.
