hi all.. just wondering...my beardie layed her clutch on june 3rd. when do you think i will have baby beardies???
Depends on the incubation temp. warmer is shorter cooler is longer. 55-75 days from when laid.
they have been at about 86 temp.
wow that's high. Hopefully it didn't peak too much above that. If you are using Hovabators like I do there is a lot of variation as the room temp. changes. I would expect them between the 55th and 60th day. Another poster on here had some hatch on the 53rd day which is unusual be I'd be prepared for it anyway. The 55th day would be the 28th of this month. On about the 50th day (7/23) put a larger container of moist vermiculite in the incubator to transfer the babies into as they hatch. That way they won't damage any of the eggs that hatch a little later. The eggs will dimple or start to collapse a day or so before they will hatch.
thanks for your help... at what temp should i have it? my other one just had a clutch, we have two incubators.. should i keep both at 86ish? or change it? we started with the 86ish becasue of the gecko eggs we have.... thanks again
I've read a lot of things on this. One book I have says that babies incubated at higher temperatures tend to be more skittish or high strung. A breeder I know feels that a little lower temp. and therefore a little longer incubation time is better for the babies developement and makes them grow faster once they hatch. Maybe someone else on this forum can share any observations they have had.
You didn't say what kind of incubator you have. Like I said I have hovabators and the temps will vary about 2 degrees as room temp. changes etc. I have a max/min thermometer in mine. I shoot for the range to be about 83.5 low and 85.5 high. I've read spikes above 88 will cause birth defects and death so I want to stay away for that.
lower temps do in fact cause longer incubation times, and higher temps a shorter incubation time. liek BDLVR said higher temp spike 88 and above can cause birth defects, but so do lower temps. ive seen dragons with what i call "piggy" tails due to temps that were too low.
i incubate my eggs at 84 degrees and had no problems at all. incubation time was right around 2 months. i cant remember how many days exact, its been awhile since i incubated eggs
