Rocky's been a bas@$$ for awhile now...

coluberking25 Jul 17, 2007 01:10 PM

...well I'm sure some of you remember that Rocky was being fed live rat pups under his pervious owner and I had to switch him over to dead small rats....which was successful until a couple months ago....when he refused to take a pre-killed small rat. Unfortunately, I got him feeding again with a live small rat, and as some of you recall, I still have an awesome not so little pet rat. Thus, I do get slightly upset having to watch Rocky kill again, yet it is amazing how he is able to strike with such precision and not get bit.

I understand that I should try switching him back over to pre-killed and hopefully thawed out soon.

Have any of you guys had to deal with a snake that suddenly stopped taking dead rodents and had to switch over to live? And were you able to get to switch the serpent back over to dead?

Guess we'll have to put up with you for a while longer ??

I've had a couple of times where one of my BRB's wanted live for a change of pace but that never lasted long. Mostly let em go hungry a few weeks and then they'll eat anything!!

i've not had this problem mine have always eaten without a fuss. but watching a snake take live prey is one of the coolest things to see ever.

i'd say if you let him go without for a while he'll be greatful to get anything you give them though. good luck

Scott,
...Look for subtle changes in the snakes environement and then try subtle changes in switching from live to dead. Rather than offer a dead rat get two very small live ones and let him eat one live and then stun the second one and see if he will take it. If he takes the stunned one try a stunned one first followed by a dead one next time.
Good luck,
Jeff
