Hatchlings........ with a hole???

Wallbanger26 Jul 17, 2007 04:06 PM

I hatched out a baby last year that had tissue hanging from the umbilical cord spot, it fell off like I was told it would. I just hatched out four babies today. 2 pastels, 1 normal and one that kinda looks like a pastel, but is probably a normal (picks later). There were 6 eggs in this clutch. 1 egg died half way through and another eggs didn't pip, so I cut it and the baby was dead inside, but fully formed . Now here's the hole part, and with this clutch's history has me worried. Two of the babies stomaches aren't closed up where they (I'm assuming) absorbed the yolk. One is only maybe open an eight of an inch and didn't look too bad. The other is open like half an inch, maybe more!!! These babies were huge compared to some other's I've hatch, all over 88 grams!!! Did they just absorb too much yolk??? Anyone else have this happen???

Ive produced a few with a larger than average remnant hole from the umbelicle cord...They are all doing fine now.(Although,i did give them plenty of time to heal up before handling them much.)

If your overly concerned with them...Perhaps apply some neosporin or silvadene cream to the affected area.

...anyone else want to chime in?

I remember not to long ago someone else had the same thing, There was a pic and it was very large, Put it on newspaper use some neosporin or the silvadine, and it should close eventually.

I'd recommend laying them out on moist paper towel over newspaper, but that is just because I've had the best results with that set up.
