Heavy Breathing

NemesisBP Jul 17, 2007 09:13 PM

Monty is my roommates baby ball Python. He is only a couple months old, about 10" long. My roommate got him last thursday, and then went out of town for a week, so its been up to me to take care of him. Fortunately, my girlfriend and I have a BP, Nemesis, and she has prior expirience with the snakes. Hes been really good so far, and extremely calm and friendly considering he is so young and has only been living with us for a few days. I handled him for almost an hour yesterday, and he was great except the last 10 minutes, when he was starting to get agitated. He was fine earlier today, but when my girlfriend an I got back from dinner, we brought him a pinky to eat, and we noticed that he is behaving very strangely. Usually he is much more active around this time, and he is breathing extremely heavy. We havent noticed any open mouth breathing, hissing or wheezing, or any of the other symptoms associated with a respiratory infection. Its about 85F in the tank, although its a little on the humid side in the house. He also has no interest in his pinky what so ever. The only thing we are thinking is respiratory infection, but he doesnt have any of the normal symptoms. Anyone have any ideas?
