The ripped bag you need to send back , but if a bag has not been exposed to open air it will still appear dry ,it is not like vermiculite that will feel wet when ready for the inqubater. It releases its moisture slowly ,. I thought the same thing when I first used it and now it is all I and I have yet to louse a fertile egg with Hatch Right . As fore a open bag or ripped bag I would send it back as you have no way of knowing how long it has been that way , but as a side note I left my hydrometer in the last bach I hatched eggs out of and at 96 days now and still holding 97% humidity . Just contact Bob Ashley at 517-256-7831 and he will take care of you ASAP! We use Hatch Rite here at the shop for our Ball collection and have never lost an egg! We also sell it to tons of kids for use on their first clutch of Beardeds, Leopard Geckos or Corns and find they have great success. It takes all the guess work out of it. Not that Vermic is hard to use but when you can open a bag and dump it in and then just drop your eggs in......EASY EASY! Its great stuff.
