she is exploring...

MannyRottie Jul 18, 2007 03:55 PM

I brought my baby spider female ball home on saturday and she didnt eat on Monday. I took Grazianis advise and she now seems to be roaming her cage. This must be a good sign right? She hangs out in her hide box but I also see her roaming a bit. I am taking this as a good sign. I will try to feed her on Monday again. Hopefully she will eat. Please tell me what you think. Thanks

Yup, I'd say that is a good sign. She is probably pretty acclimated now. How many days have you had her? You can feed her 5-7 days after you put her in the enclosure, so I am sure she could eat now, but I might wait a few more days. Post some pics of her when you have a chance.

I have had her since Saturday, but I was told by the guy I bought her from to feed her Monday. That was a mistake and she didn't eat. So I am going to wait until Monday coming up. This should be plenty of time to get her acclimated and hungry. Hopefully she will be comfortable enough to eat.

dont be dissappointed if she doesnt eat. i just had a ball not eat for 7 months finally she ate. what a relief i will try again in a few days and hopefully she will eat again.

Yeah, I would go ahead and feed her on Monday. She should eat. If she doesn't eat the frozen/thawed rodent after a few offerings, try that same food item, just live. She should eat though.

The breeder dude told me that she only eats live. So I will be glad if she eats that and then slowly I will have to convert her to frozen thawed. We will see. Have you guys ever heard of Big Daddy Wholesale? Thats who sold me her at the show in Orlando, but now I have read some pretty bad things about his facility. My female is beautiful though. Thanks

JSpythons Jul 18, 2007 07:38 PM

Yes, I have heard of him. He is actually on this website alot. He is in the classifieds if you look. I have not heard about his facility though, I haven't heard whether it was bad or good so I couldn't tell you anything about it either way. I would try to feed her the frozen thawed first, just give it a try, you just never know. Once you get them hooked on live, it takes a little bit of work to get them onto frozen thawed.

Yea I am not complaining about the quality of the snake cause like I said she is beautiful. I will try frozen first and then see what happens. At this point I will be happy just to see her eat.

He's been documented to sell IBD-infected animals and house his animals in filthy conditions.

A trip to the vet should set my mind at ease though. If I get her a fecal examination and everything comes back negative then I will be happy.

There is no way to test for IBD until after the animal is dead and a liver biopsy is done.
