Egg Bound Female??

Terradas Jul 19, 2007 07:58 AM

I have a female cresty that has laid 2 clutches of eggs so far this season and now it has been about 5 weeks since her last clutch and no eggs yet. I'm starting to worry that she's egg bound and might die. Is 5 weeks too early to worry about her or if not is there anything I can do to get her to lay?

What is the normal spacing between clutches for her? Mine range from one, all the way to two months apart. I can usually tell when a female is about to lay because she starts digging in her nesting box, sometimes she sheds right before, and usually eats very poorly for the 2 days before. You might keep an eye on here and see if she is doing any of these things for more than a few days. I have never had to deal with an egg bound female so I can't help with that.

I guess that's the tricky part. This is her first year producing eggs and only her potential 3rd clutch. There were about 4 weeks between clutches last time and I'm past 5 1/2 weeks now. She's really big (golf ball sized) and was digging a week or so ago and has since stopped.

This is my first year breeding cresties and I'm used to leopard geckos who lay just about 2 weeks apart like clockwork. Everything just seems to take a little longer with these gals.
