breeding

geicothegecko Jul 19, 2007 10:12 AM

right now i have one female leopard gecko. and i am possibly thinking of breeding. I know that i have to read up on it a lot. i was starting to, and there were all these websites advertising leopard geckos for sale. do they just ship them or something? cuz i am really confused on that. (and i might not even breed. to tell the truth its all up to my parents whether i'm allowed to or not.) and what is the maximum breeding age for geckos?

Most commercial breeders ship their leos in insulated carriers during the nicer weather months (depending on distance etc etc etc). Breeding leos is fun, but involves quite a bit of risk to the female. You really just need to read alot on the topic and decide if 1) your female will be able to do it in a healthy way, 2) if u can properly incubate the eggs and care for delicate hatchlings, and 3) have good homes setup for the babies once they are older. I was lucky enough to have my babies go to good homes, but be prepared to have them stick around for a while! The leo market is saturated and normal or high yellow leos probably wont be easy to sell.

good luck!

hey, same here! parents...

i would go to an expo or something, they are cheaper, you can see them for yourself, and there is way more options and no shipping or shipping costs.
