Sanzania Breeding Question

shedthegear Jul 19, 2007 11:34 AM

Last year I placed 2.1 Green Phase Sanzania together in November. The trio was left together until Feb-March. I periodically would take one male out for a week and then place him back in to spurn on the mating.

I did witness both males courting the female several times.

The female was always a good eater. Unlike the males, she would eat a large rat pretty much every week. This was prior to cooling her late last year before breeding. Her last meal prior to cooling was 10/16/2006.

Well, after I separated the snakes earlier this year, she did take one meal on 3/13/2007. She hasn't eaten since.

I never did witness her ovulation. But, only having 1 meal since October of last year, she still has some girth to her. She isn't what I would consider 'huge', but for a snake that's only had 1 meal in such a long time, she still does have some girth to her.

She does thermoregulate under the heating element.

Is she Gravid? If so, when could I expect her to give birth.

Attached is the pic of one of my males breeding her.

Thanks.

The best indications of a female being gravid are: lying 'cool', and colour. Gravid female will darken substantially when gravid and tend to stay on the cooler side of the enclosue.
Gravid females tend not to eat whilst gravid, but it doesn't necessarily indicate that she is. Sanzinia can fast for very long periods for no apparent reason and then suddenly start eating again. I have recently had a male green start to feed again after fasting for two years - yes - TWO years without eating a thing. He is now eating again as if nothing had changed.
