Finally....

I was feeling left out with all of these Crocodile Monitor posts flying around so I figured I would chime in. I don't know if any of you remember, but my crocodile monitor was not taking mice that well. He would sometimes not eat them. So I started racking my brain and perfecting everything around her. Then one day I was tired, lying in bed reading reptiles magazine and came across the Rodentpro ad. I decided to try F/T, and the next day I threw three adult mice in there, left for a few hours and when I came back they were gone. Tried this again and they were gone even quicker. So I just wanted to tell everyone how shes doing. So after all of the posts and replies from you guys, she is back in business, for the most part. I hope this will continue, oh and sam sweet, I stole your cage idea. Basically when all said and done it will look like yours.

Not to rain on your progress, but, a normal healthy croc monitor will demolish live mice, or anything similar. If it does not, its telling you something is not right.

I often suggest, listen to your monitor(over advice from those without actual successful experience) Even listen to your monitor over those with successful experience, hahahahahahahaha.

This is something you should be listening too. If its too timid to kill a mouse, something is not right. It does not mean its the end of the world. It simply means, something needs attention. Your job as a keeper is to figure out what that would be and adjust it.

As a keeper(not a person who only follows instructions) your job is to view your captives progress and make adjustments accordingly. That is what a keeper does. Cheers

I realize that and I do plan on trying to figure this out. Although a lizard that only eats f/t is not so bad in the long run. I can store more food, and I don't have to search the cage for mice which takes some time. I do understand that being a keeper is trial and error but I think that is why I enjoy this so much. What would varanid keeping be without consistent challenges?
