Hatchling question

FireStorm Jul 19, 2007 01:23 PM

I have a question about my first clutch. They hatched July 8, and the two Pastels have been in she for a few days now, so they're right on schedule. The little Normal girl isn't, though, and she doesn't even have a pink belly like she's going into shed. She was the first one out, too. She weighes 52g (the same weight as her sister), but she looks thinner to me. She came from the smallest egg, so maybe she got less yolk? Other than being a little behind her siblings, she seems perfectly fine. They're all in identical shoeboxes in my hatchling rack, and temps are 86 hot and 80 cool. Should I be worried about her or am I overreacting? This is my first clutch, so I'm not sure if this is normal or not.

Thanks for the input,
Shelly

I wouldn't be too worried... some take longer than others to shed. Make sure its nice and humid for them and I would adjust your temps a little. 90 hot side and 75 cool side will give them a little more of a gradient

Thanks, that's kinda what I thought. I just rearranged the heat cable and turned it up a little, so they should be warmer now and I'm misting them to keep the humidity up.

Thanks for the help,
Shelly

Ok just make sure you don't get them toooo warm. 90 is perfect. You want to keep them humid but not 'wet'

Don't worry, I won't let them get too warm . I just got a temp gun, and I'm finding that some of my Accurite thermometers are not as accurate as I thought they were. The temp gun is great, though. I only wish I'd bought it sooner - it's definitely a must have.

Thanks for the help,
Shelly

you kinda answered your Q? by saying it isnt a big as the others shedding is part of growth accomidations.Chris

not exactly. I just wondered if being behind on shedding was something to worry about, since it will also put her behind on eating. I realize it could be because she's smaller. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I'm probably overreacting, but I just hope she goes into shed soon so I can get her feeding.
