Brooks morphs?

toyota85 Jul 19, 2007 02:49 PM

I was just wondering if any of the breeders could post pics of all the differen brooks morph? That way people who are new to brooks "such as myself" can see what a adult snow, axanthic, lavender and etc looks like. That way we can get excited for all hatchlings we see!! unless there is a website you could point me to that already has that info?? Thanks for any help

to be honest there are so many morphs right now it would be impossble to post them all. It would be like going on the Ball python forum and asking to show pics of all the different morphs and combinations. Morphs are expanding as I write. It is a never ending process to produce the next new thing by combining the different traits. It would take pages of explanation.

Just as an example. The post below you see a pic of a sub-adult snow. Thing is it is a sulfur SNOW. A normal snow does not have that much color. Then the extrem lav came out with lots of red. And we also have the sulfur lavender.

Now people are also misusing these names to sell their snakes. Misreprestation is rampant among the broks/florida morphs this year. You will see a lot of extrme lavenders on the classifieds right now. But they are not extremes just normal lavenders.
I have seen lavenders listed as Peanut Butters as well this past month and at reptile shows. When confronted via email or on the phone or in person these sellers always deny or place the blame on the person who gave them the snakes. Most of these people are brokers or have pets shops or buy snakes to sell at shows. Most are not 100% breeding thei own stock. So find out who you buy from.

here is an extreme:

Now how many extrmes do you see listed on the classifieds and people have on their tables that look like this?

WOW... you know, not trying to down my "Hybino" but that extreme looks like my "hybino" does... has any one ever give thought to the possibility that hybinos are out there and we just don't know it cuz they have always been bred to Lavenders only to produce lavenders?

My "hybino" is a male so he'll be bred back to his mom, a hold back 2x het hybino and to a flame hypo female when he's ready (i'm pretty sure (99.9999%) he's a "true blue" hybino... but i won't be 100% till i breed him to the hypo)

I wouldn't mind finding some one that still breeds those extreme lavenders I need a pair... they are about to be a lost stock... GET THEM WHILE U CAN!

that not a hybino. Its an extreme. Proffessional Breeders had some nice ones. Then they came down in price as others had the nicer one for sale at the show. Now i don't see many nice ones avliable.

The possibilty is always there that you might come across a hybino being sold as a lavender Zenny. Thats why you should come to daytona LOL! (inside joke)

I have been saying this for a long while. This is a downside of the hobby. Those Extremes were all the rage a few years back. People got used to them being "available" and let them slip away. Now we're asking ourselves where'd they go? I am gonna have my eye out for some at the Expo. Mislabeled or not, I know I can spot one and then it's all mine.
Not being a wise guy Zenny, it's just as if we'd forgotten what they even look like anymore. Let's bring em back!

I have a nice extrme I bred to my sulfur lav. I think those will turn out killer. My extreme female is really red. Combine that with the sulfur and i am expecting fireworks...

...hey that might be a new name for them. "Firework" lavenders. LOL!

bone white patternless?! that's the one i am eying at and it really nice....now where the hell did you get this snake? or if you bred this one which did you breed to which?

Bluerosy Jul 19, 2007 07:30 PM

There is only two in existence of the bone white patternless side hypos. I got a female and Don shores picked up the male from this guy at Daytona. he did not even have a table . We went to his hotel room.

I bred it to my New England axanthic to make whiter ghosts. The first clutch was all slugs. Now she is gravid again.

One hell of an impressive display of brooks Rainer. Randy

daveb Jul 19, 2007 09:03 PM

I can help you out with some pics, and I have some more pics at my old web site, to help fortify what Rainer has illustrated vwey well below.

first pic is of a normal south florida brooks king male. this is generally what i looked for when that trait is mentioned.

daveb

daveb Jul 19, 2007 09:04 PM

this is a pic of a ghost female. this particular one was one of the first few produced.

daveb Jul 19, 2007 09:06 PM

this picture is of a hypomelanistic white sidebrooksi. I hatched out two of these in one clutch last year.

daveb Jul 19, 2007 09:09 PM

this is a picture of a male white side brooksi. i did not see all of them but i thought this was one of the better ones of this morph, especially compared to some of the ones produced lately.

daveb Jul 19, 2007 09:13 PM

this is a female "extreme" lavender albino. typically normal phase females are darker than males. i believe that the dark pigment is replaced by red in an albino, and it didn't surprise me to se that this girl turned out pretty well. btw, her brother was not nearly as attractive.

daveb Jul 19, 2007 09:20 PM

this is a pic of a extreme orange male breeding a white side female.
btw, this pair was about 18 months old when this mating occurred. I do not remember how many eggs she laid but she did lay a bunch of good fertile eggs. good husbandry and paying attention to your animals allows you to succeed where doctrine "says" you cannot. yeeeeehah!
btw #2, the reason I paired these two up is that she was rather dark on top, and hoping the offspring resulting from the double hets would show a tremendous amount of red dorsally. from what i have heard and experienced, somehow the ws trait seems to knock out red on the dorsum. darn. keep working...

daveb Jul 19, 2007 09:28 PM

an axanthic white side male breeding a snow female. same story, 18 months old, and a bunch of fertile eggs.
this is where things got interesting last year. i was expecting to get all axanthics that would be double het for snow and white side from this breeding. but when the eggs hatched what i did get was two axanthics and a bunch of normals... there are different axanthics involved in making snows even before you start considering sulfur snows.

i have some other pics at my old web site, via the link below.

derekdehaas Jul 19, 2007 09:57 PM

you got that right. i have always loved brooks and i forget that there is other kinds of kings as well. all i have now is a pair of ws het ax ws brooks kings from rick's line. beside the hypos and anery brooks i had that i sold off because i can't find some mates.
i wanted to start fresh and get bunch of hatchlings and raise them to breeders anyways. lately i been so stress about the morphs/genes and all that triple hets out there that i need to learn really deep. argh!
