Amber,
..Congratulations. They are really pretty. I have owned a couple dozen BPs over the years and a BP was my first Python. I still enjoy looking at and handling them when I see one. Their stocky muscular bodies and tendency to hold onto you when you handle them make them ideal pets. I cannot imagine why anyone does not like them.

I think BPs are beautiful, and I certainly don't hate them. For me, it's more a frustration that they (along with Corns, Leos and Beardies) seem to be dominating every reptile venue over here. (Canada)

It's hard to find a good variety of any other species.

Anyhow, beautiful clutch and congrats
I can't wait until someday I have a litter or clutch to show off here.

4th python specie, I had a retic at 11, arock at 13, and burm at 14, then a ball, kinda backwards. My first retic lived 14 years and was killed by a gargantuan female during breeding trials, but managed to sire 69 neonates out of 96 fertile eggs.

Female was my friends who had her when I was 11, she was 16 feet then, which is why I actually got one, man boy envy perhaps, It was easy I worked in a pet store from 11-15. I ordered it from either World Wide Reptiles or Bronx Reptiles way back in the day. My family considered me an "odd" lad, I also had speckled caimans at 13 when they where still legal in my state, now you can't have them anymore.

The female just recently passed and was 29 years old, give or take a year or two. other retic's I have been lucky enough to breed laid usually 30-35 large eggs, the other female laid small eggs and a pile of them to boot, only first clutch was that large, her other clutches averaged about 60 eggs, with one being 75, her last clutch in 2001 was 40 eggs, she didn't breed any more after that and died last year. My friend had to call me up to remove her, he was very upset to say the least. But we both have a few from our own line from wild caught retic's. Very few people kept them back in the 80's, I am happy to say I was one of them.

Basically after my divorce in 1996, my entire collection had to be disseminated including a 20 year old 25 foot Burmese python, het for old age lol. started rebuilding my collection in 2000/2001, so most of my snakes are just approaching breeding age. I slow grow all my snakes. I do not believe in making any snake breedable in under 3-4 years, typically they are almost 5 before I breed them for first time, my first retic was 14 the first and last time he bred. I managed to get 6 snakes from this bloodline, thank god, I was snake less except for a wild caught black racer from 1997-2000/2001. Although I have bred some snakes during the time. Retic's, Brazilians, and pine snakes and several rat snake species in 2001/2002. Sold them to get some of the stock I have now. It is nice to be back. Plus the alcoholism didn't help (2001-2006) I do everything backwards, didn't start drinking till I lost everything, then quit while rebuilding so I wouldn't end up like the typical story of loosing everything because of the drinking. ASS backwards lol.

I prolly like you so much cuz you have your head on straight lol Great story I always enjoy those stories that touch me on the sensitive side (cuz I am a sensitive kind of guy) but nonetheless you are a better man for it. BTW I have noticed that my brb's do NOT deficate when in the "blue" but pretty much right after so I thought I would tell you that since it happened about 3 times and I feed my snakes no matter if they are blue or not cuz they eat everytime and it is never live but twitching while dangling or already whacked a little to hard but hopefully not dripping the blood all over cuz that sucks. Take care P-I-M-P

Even though Ball Pythons aren't my cup of tea, I still think the patterns and colors they come in are pretty cool. If I ever got a BP, it would be the Piebald....now that is one cool snake!

Your babies are very cute, I like the contrast on them. The Pastels get a bit more yellowish later, right?

Aubrey - Some do, but some just "brown" out. I'll have a better idea what these guys are going to look like once they shed. I think a lot of selective breeding goes into getting a nice high yellow pastel.

Good luck with the BP projects next season. I have a few het pieds I will be working with this fall too.

Bob

FRoberts Jul 21, 2007 12:14 AM

Thanks for the kind words, hopefully both of our het pied's bless us with neonates and good ratio's. I once bred het bubblegum rat snakes, the female laid 9 eggs, 3 where albinos. She then without me re mating dropped a second clutch of 4 eggs, all 4 albinos. Ratios can swing in any direction, and from my experiences with het's, besides scenario mentioned, the results can be quite variable. I have had het's lay 10 eggs and produce no albinos, I questioned to myself the probability of one or both not being het's, next year I got albinos, so you never can tell. exciting stuff!!! thanks again and good luck with all your current and future projects!!!

Ok I only have 1.1 normal balls that are mine (from Constrictors unlimited). But I have my best friends ( John Rodriguez )entire ball collection at my house. It consists of 1.1 high contrast albino balls, 1.1 het pied's, and 1.1 pos het snow any other odds and ends.

The first two pairs (albino & het pieds) should be ready this coming season. My friend Jim Alexander has already sent me my BCI's. I picked 2.1 from his litter and he sent me 2.2 instead, very nice circle back looking. they eat rat pups already. His argentine boa should drop between now and august and he will probably send me 2.2 as well, though I am only asking for 1.2 of those.

Bob, millipedes are not so bad, I prefer carnivorous animals like centipedes's. I got tagged by a Vietnamese centipede, yes it hurt very badly. Impressive how fast poison takes effect.

You, guys have not seen most of my collection, camera is in my future, probably October when I get my bonus from Costco (3200.00 every 6 months, have I mentioned Costco RULES!!!)

pick below is his argentine getting ready to burst. she is a lot longer then picture indicates, but you can see the lump traveling towards back half.

Interestingly I taught him to breed snakes in the late 80's, he has surpassed me in the number of species he has successfully bred. But he is waiting for his JCP, Dumerils', and Rainbows from me when I hopefully breed them in future. Gave him one of my male blood pythons recently, extra male, he wanted it so it's his now. I only have 2 adult males I raised since hatchlings, I need a female red blood, perhaps a cherry bomb albino.
