Open mouth and say ahhhhhhhh

odin22 Jul 19, 2007 07:50 PM

Greetings

Does anyone have or would anyone be willing to take some pictures of the mouth of a heathy red-tail showing the proper color for their gums?

Our red-tails still have upper-respiratory infections, which will hopefully be treated next week with Amphiteracin B (sp?). The vet says our babies have pale gums due to chronic infection. I spoke with a snake owner tonight who said that white is a normal color, that even healthy pink is pretty pale.

There is no mucus with this infection, but where we couldn't hear the girls breathing before, we can now, so something is obviously not quite right..

Thanks in advance,
Antigone

Sorry, I've only taken pic's of them when unhealthy.. oops. My camera is lost too, so I'm of absolute no help. If pale gums aren't the only symptom, I'd be more gung-ho on pursueing treatment. Back to the gums, if the vet is well versed in boa constrictors (a common pet snake of course), then recognizing pale gums versus normal pale gums shouldn't be to difficult. I know when my snake had this symptom, I found it obvious. Have you noticed a difference?

Ian
