V. caudolineatus

Neal_ Jul 20, 2007 09:48 AM

Tuesday morning I flew to California and back to pick up 1.2 caudolineatus. I left PHX at around 7:15 am and arrived back at PHX at 11:45am. Much quicker and easier than driving back as I had originally planned. Thanks RSG!

I acquired 2 female caudos 2.5 years ago and have been searching for a male ever since I was certain of their sex. This spring one of them died. She was the prettiest of the two and had nice well defined lines on her tail. I called her Stripe.

In the tub pic below the old female is on the far left. The new three are on the right. The male is between the two young females.

They’ve settled in nicely and have been eagerly putting away the pinkies and roaches.

their trough setup

Thanks for looking.

Hey Neal
Looking good, congrats again. good luck with them.
do you have a good comparison pic of the male vs female?
Always trying to get better at sexing.
Robin

Neal_ Jul 21, 2007 11:18 AM

Hi Robin, thanks for the congrats. I was in a bit of a hurry when I washed them and snapped the pic. I probably should have tried to get some good pics of the heads and tail bases. The male’s tail base is thicker with a different shape to it, and when I looked at the underside, the hemipene bulges were fairly pronounced. The male has a more masculine shape to his head with a more distinct nostral ridge and jaw. But my old female has a rather masculine looking head too. The females seem to have slightly more slender and elongated bodies. These new three seem to be pretty normal and obvious examples of their sex, at least when inspecting them in person. Cheers

Glad to see you got some more caudos Neal.

It is great to know that there are more people working with them now.

have a good one,
Daniel

Neal_ Jul 21, 2007 11:22 AM

Thanks Daniel. I don’t know that there are really more people in the US working with them. I only know of Robin and myself. But who knows, there may be others hiding somewhere. Cheers

Hi Neal
There is a guy in san diego who has a pair, don't know who he is.
Thats where your new ones came from.
Robin

The dealer who sold them to RSG also told me that same story when I talked to him back in the spring. Cheers

daniel1983 Jul 21, 2007 06:56 PM

Yep...you and robin are the only two I know....

....but that is alot better than it seemed a few months ago...

I wish you the best of luck with the Neal.

Have a good one,
Daniel

Very nice, I wish you lots of luck with those beauties.

By the way, you put all my troughs to shame with that top you built there. Very very nice!
It makes mine look like they where built by 5 year olds...... hahaha

Jon

Neal_ Jul 21, 2007 11:40 AM

Thanks Jon. That is a nice complement on the trough. Of course another way to look at it would be that it takes me for-freakin-ever to make a trough setup because I can be such a perfectionist about details that don’t matter much. Cheers

FR Jul 21, 2007 09:12 AM

Congrats Neal. You deserve a chance, since you had those females so long. I hope you do well with them.

Why did Rsg get rid of them? Cheers

Neal_ Jul 21, 2007 11:44 AM

Thanks Frank. RSG said that I just deserved them more. haha

Actually he said things came up and he was too busy for them. Cheers

Danget Neal. I posted on the other forum asking if you can post pics hahahaha. I forgot to look at this forum first hahahaha. I a pic of my storrs if you want to see them. They are your babies hahaha.

Good luck with them. Just remember to dig up the eggs ok?

Cheers,
Sean

Neal_ Jul 23, 2007 08:21 AM

Hi Sean, I was looking forward to stopping by and seeing how my babies were doing. And of course telling you everything you're doing wrong. Just kidding, I think you're doing well with them. The person that advised me that I could fly back with them seems pretty sharp so I decided to actually take some good advice for once. Cheers

sungazer Jul 23, 2007 09:15 PM

Yeah i was looking forward to it also. But its all good. I would like you to come over and tell me everything i'm doing wrong. Shoot that would be nice. Flying back is a good idea though. A long drive on your own with reptiles in the car.... not fun hahaha.

I think i will send you some pics of the whole cage later.

Also my male storrs mounted my female but she kinda did this bounce thing and booted him off hahahaha. I still wish they would of mated, but hey they are progressing. I have seen things that look like they mated and they got done with it (hahaha) when i came in the room. But i'm not sure abou that. I am still waiting and hoping. We will see what happens.

Cheers,
Sean

I thought I was done, then an opportunity came along that I couldn't pass up so I started a new company.
Besides, you know my history of digging up eggs.......

FR Jul 22, 2007 01:06 AM

Those red ackies, hahahahahahahahaha Cheers

bigcountry1 Jul 21, 2007 10:26 PM

I've sent you a private message.

rsg Jul 21, 2007 11:50 PM

I cleaned out the cage today and there were rotten eggs everywhere, you should be up to your eyeballs in caudo's soon. Good luck finding the eggs though........

Neal_ Jul 23, 2007 09:49 AM

In addition to a little luck, I reckon I'll be needing some patience with the tedious task of digging up their tiny eggs (without damaging them). Cheers
