Breeding question?

phillippwj Jul 20, 2007 12:15 PM

Maybe I'm thinking wrong but if you have a female lay eggs in, say mid july, breeding usually goes on in late Nov to Dec? How do you get the weight back on her between seasons or do you skip a season? I will hopefully be breeding my females this coming season and was just curious? thanks for any input phillip

All of my girls dropped their eggs in May and are already back up to their pre-lay weight. If I did have one lay late though, I would still feed her as usual and if she was back up to size by fall, great, and if not, I might just go for a late breeding. I'm sure the more seasoned breeders will chime in for you too!

If she laid in mid July, she more than likely didn't breed back in Nov/Dec. I would guess more like March/April, which means you'll have longer to put the weight back on her.

I have girls go all different times of the year and most of them will begin breeding 9 months after egg laying. This is just my personal experience. Good luck.
