07 Holdback MYSTICS , you be the judge!!

anthony james mc Jul 20, 2007 01:27 PM

These are the best Mystics I have produced , they are from the Original Mystic bred to a very text book example of a true Harlequin female... The Mystic gene is normally alot more subtle than alot of the other codoms, however when you line it up with the right mates you will get some KILLER stuff... Can't wait to see the SUPER, I'm calling them the "MANIC BALL"!!!! Hope you enjoy the pic, Anthony McCain's Reptiles....

Hey Anthony,
Those look great. If someone showed me the picture and asked what they were I would almost be sure they were mojaves. Do you have pics of the Mystic breeder?
Thanks,
Justin

Actually they are not Mojaves at all.. As I said these are the result of breeding a Mystic to a visual harlequin female.. I have Mystics from different clutches that look alot different (frankly alot less flashy to the point some may think they looked like odd normals but they aren't they are just average Mystics)... Mystic , resemble Phantoms more than Mojaves , ALL the breeders that have them think the same as I and say they don't look like their Mojaves overall , the pattern is very similiar but if you look close the Mystics are ALOT darker, have alot less side blushing and have a different darker belly than the Mojaves.. Here is another pic of a Mystic next to an actual Mojave, it's easy to tell which is the Mystic, and it doesn't look like a Mojave to me NOR alot of others experts in this industry..

congrats on the good looking clutch. But one question. What happens if they do turn out to be phantoms? Are you still going to just take the work done by Ralph and say "forget about that, these are not phantoms they are mystics"? The one thing I see is that people's egos to jump up to the next level are getting over the enjoyment of working with these snakes.

Nice looking Mojaves you have there, and yes I did read the thread, but still doesn't change that the phenotype for those animals would be what everyone calls "Mojaves".

I, too, can't wait to see the "Super." Who knows, it might even be an oh, I don't know......blue eyed leucistic??? That will certainly be another, new, original, first-ever morph!!!

Don't name your morphs before they hatch! Who knows if there will be a super "mistic"....

Remember when the phantoms first hatched for a brief time both TSK and RDR thought they where the same as Mojave’s so it's not that big of a stretch for people to be picking up on a possible family resemblance.

Any plans to breed your Mystics into the white snake complex to see if they are compatible?

Here is a pet store girl I picked up years ago (2001 I think) that finally produced on a breeding loan this year and some of her babies look like her (maybe even a little more Mojave like leaning but still different). I have a breeding loan set up for next year to hopefully test her for compatibility with the lesser complex. With her and your Mystic my hope is that there will be a stunning super, maybe with more color than some of the lighter members of this possibly related complex. Of course my girl might not have a viable homozygous or it might not be anything special or at all related to the proven hets from the white snake complex.

I’m sorry but there is no way the Phantom resembles a Mojave !! The Phantom is a lot darker and the pattern is a lot different . What were they thinking ? Thanks David of DS Reptile Rescue

RandyRemington Jul 21, 2007 06:21 PM

There weren’t as many other known variations in that complex then and I suppose they look more like each other than the do normals. They did turn out to be compatible after all (at least they both produce white snake with lesser). Also, I wonder if the mojaves have been bred up to be lighter since then, maybe some of the first few mojaves where using darker females.

dsreptiel Jul 21, 2007 04:43 PM

Have you thought about it like this , that you ma have unlocked how the Mojave was created in the wild and that this would expanse how this phenotype came to be and was found and then exported to the USA to Dan and Colette Sutherland back in the late 1990s and then officially named in2000 . Congratulations
Thanks David of DS Reptile Rescue

Great looking clutch Anthony!

I've seen one of Anthony's mystics in person, and I'm certain it is not a mojave. I believe that if it's not a phantom then it's a brand new morph - exciting either way.

Dan
