ChristopherD Jul 21, 2007 12:47 PM

i just did, the fresh escapee brooks yearling was hiding behind a 22 tub rack that doesnt have wheels so i got out the 6/lb spinning rod and tied a F/T mouse on ,and did a lil flippin and BANG "Got Him On" couldnt budge him out but was able to reach him while he was tackling his prey and was then rewarded with another mouse when caught safely and returned to his home cage

This is the wrong forum Chris. It should be moved to the fishing for snakes forum.

The glory always goes to the innovative. Good thinking Chris! I need to start practicing in my basement so I can join the Professional Herpfishers Tour.

You'd need heavier line and would have to play the drag for a while!!

Those are so easy to find, just follow the path of destruction and listen for entire racks falling down ,if that doesnt work try Blind-trolling a bridle rigged single hook Bunny up and down the hall .I Think We Need A Bigger Boat!

Rick Shine did a study on Red-bellied Blacksnakes in Australia where they caught many of the snakes by casting rats to them as the forage and reeling them in. The snakes are apparently such gluttons (like kingsnakes) that they would allow themselves to be reeled in.
They even were able to hold them up off the ground with the rods to photograph them against a premeasured grid the estimate their lengths. And these are highly venomous, Indigo-sized snakes!

I saw photos of this at a talk he gave at one of the herp meetings. It was riotously funny.
