INCUBATOR HELP!!!

crazydragon Jul 21, 2007 08:29 PM

the humidty in my hovar bator is suddenly dropping, what can I do to maintain it. It was holding at 72 degrees for the humidity, now all of a sudden today it dropped. The water inside was a little low, so I filled it up but it's not stabilizing. The guys at the reptile shop are not in till monday at noon so I can't ask them, I did talk to him earlier and he told me to check the water. The temperature is holding fine though!I used a hand mister and that pulls it up, but within 15 to 20 minutes it drops almost 20 degrees. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Do you keep your tuppers with airholes in it?

No! I was told not too have holes in it and to once a week open it up so air can get in. So far the eggs are holding, the humidity did come back up to 64 degrees it was holding at 72 degrees before it dropped. When I added water it was cold not warm do you think this caused it to drop? The temperatures outside dropped, but they are starting to slowly rise. Can the temps and humidity outside the house effect it. Sorry so many question, this is our first time as the female that was purchased turned out to be pregnant. We weren't looking to breed till we were better prepared.

are you talking about humidity or temp? you said humidity but then you said degrees. confuzzlin.

Sorry!I was talking about the humidity, right now the humidity is holding at 75 to 78 percent. My temperature is at 80 to 81 degrees. Does this sound good ? So far the eggs look good, as far as I can tell anyway. Yesterday I added another clutch.

humidity sounds good. your temps are low, you def. will get all females if all goes well. how long have they been incubating for? i would seriously suggest buying ron tremper and phillip de vosji's book, it tells you pretty much everything you need to know. it's 40$ though, but worth every penny. good luck!

The first set we lost, the second set was laid on july 12th, the third set was laid on july 25th. Yeh! I know I should have gone for females and males temps, oopps too late can't change the temps now. Thanks I'll start searching for that book. We weren't really ready to breed, just happened to buy a pregnant gecko! Thanks for your help.

im sorry about your eggs, but if it makes you feel better, often times the first clutch a gecko lays goes bad naturally anyway. not very often does a first time mama lay good eggs right off the bat. you must be doing something to make your geckos happy! you should def. get that book, it's called The Herptoculture of Leopard Geckos, by Phillipe de Vosjoli, Ron Tremper and Rodger Kilinberger (sp?) DMV. It pretty much tells you everything you need to know about leos. good luck!
