WC normals in your program

omni_ Jul 22, 2007 08:54 AM

Just wondering if anyone has or plans to use WC corns in breeding projects. I would think it pretty fun to pair an unknown with one or more proven breeders. I can imagine the anticipation grow more and more as the expected hatching date nears. Heck, it might even add some spice to your projects that have you in a stale lineup of morphs you've always had and know with certainty the outcome of all possible pairings. When hets are cheaper than the morph, would it not make sense if you had the time/resources to prove out the parent and offspring? You could have a nice surprise of multi-hets. This would also apply to unknown cb normals from unknown parentage. I am thinking along these lines because all my corns are known quantities, either 100% hets or het nothings, and am starting to consider projects for '12 using the offspring of my future '09 pairings

I'm not really planning to use wild caught in any of my other breeding plans but I do plan to use them in their own breeding plans.
Simply put, I plan to breed my Alabama wild caught corns to produce more like them.

BUT if I see something in one of the future offspring that might lead me to believe it could enhance another project I won't hesitate to introduce it.

Most likely I will combine the wild caught traits with some okeetee traits to see what I could produce there or maybe even use some of the wild caught blood to infuse a different look into my creamsicles, rootbeers or cinnamons. (sorry purists)

It will probably just be something along the line that may catch my eye and make me think "hmmm, that just might give "these" that distinct or different characteristic to make them stand out from the rest".
