TNT06 Jul 22, 2007 11:24 AM

hi all. my first clutch of eggs are hatching. over the last 3 1/2 weeks, i have gotten 9 babies. is it ok to put them all in the same tank? the first ones that hatched are bigger now than the new ones that just hatched... they seem to be doing just fine. just wanted to make sure this is ok... and at what age should i seperate out the males? thanks agin...

you may keep clutchmates together, or any hatchlings of VERY similar size, but you do so at increased risk to all. I usually weed out males as soon as you can tell reliably.

i'd say seperate the males, and put them with a female or two, 2 males wont work after a while lol can you only tell what sex it is after the genital regions develop? if they were hatched to female temps i dont think you'll have much problems, just make sure they have space and enough hides for each other

Actually, I assumed they meant that incubated for mostly females or a mix, when do you need to make sure you remove any males to prevent gravidity too early. I don't recommend keeping any males and females together between about 3-4 months up to full breeding age for that reason.

they are only from 3 weeks and younger right now... there is a size difference thou. should i seperate out the bigger ones from the smaller ones? will the bigger/older ones bit on the smaller?

geckogrl6 Jul 25, 2007 04:41 PM

If there is a notable size difference you need to not keep them together.

i wouldn't, at the most i would say split them up into 2-3 groups by size. when they are that little i would use showboxes for each indivigual one. wal-mart and big lots have them for like 1$ and just drill holes in them, put some heat tape on the bottom. give them a waterdish (petri dishes work well), and a hide and you should be good and watch out for ones with shedding problems, you might have to add a humid hide. good luck and you can e-mail me at otis07_@hotmail.com if you have any more quesitons. also, you should get ron tremper and phillip de vosji's book about leos. it's really good.
