Feeding issues..

AndrewFromSoCal Jul 22, 2007 04:52 PM

I've been having some trouble with my little Squirt. He doesn't seem to be too interested in CGD, or Baby Food for that matter. I'll leave the baby food in for about 2 days, and sometimes it LOOKS like he's taken a bit of it, but not always.

I have no problem getting him to eat crickets, but I would really like to vary his diet a bit.

Any ideas?

Try dusting the crickets with CGD. Then he'll associate the smell/taste of CGD with food. That will most likely get him eating CGD. That being said, if he's a juvenile, I noticed with mine that when she was young, she was much more interested in crickets than fruit/CGD. Now she's happy to eat CGD all the time. (Of course, she's quite an aggressive feeder when it comes to crickets still, but they're no longer the primary part of her diet - she gets them every other or every third feeding.)

I agree, great ideas.............something else to think about......try feeding the crix a tad bit of cgd, crickets really do taste just like what they have eaten, the nastiest tasting carrot i have ever eaten.lol.

I dust with T-Rex's CGD, but I will try feeding them it, it isn't a half bad idea. Thing is, i'm feeding my crestie from the bin I feed my leopards..do you think anything bad would happen to the leopards? I thought I had read somewhere that leos cannot digest plant material, but I have no idea if i'm remembering correctly.

Thanks!

What do you feed the crickets right now? (I'm betting it has plant material in it, so probably no real worries there.) That being said, if you've already tried dusting with CGD to no apparent effect, you may just be in a similar situation to me where my crested, when young, wasn't very interested in eating anything but crickets, which she devoured ravenously. As she got older, her tastes in food branched out a bit.

I'm hoping it's what happened to you, because my gecko downs crickets like no other. I'm feeding the crix those little orange cubes from flukers, so I guess it couldn't be too bad. I'm getting roaches soon, maybe the crestie will eat those, too.

what species of roach, mine went crazy when i started breeding roaches soft and they move faster way better if you can breed them i think.

I'm getting B. Lateralis (Turkistan Roach) as soon as I can figure PayPal out. Breeding will take a few months, i'm sure, but it's okay.

I am hoping to work out a rodent room with my gf so as i can breed roaches agin.

I cant comment on what you read as I have not seen it, but with that said crickets feed almost exclusively on plant matter thats all i feed mine, between greens carrots and grains it all comes from plants. But dont take that as a go ahead im not sure if cgd is bad for leos though i have feed crickets dusted with cgd to leos, just had extra kind of thing they didnt seem to like the taste much with them dusted but ate em anyway.
