Quick Question!

beladona Jul 22, 2007 08:15 PM

I have an adult female normal Ball python, and im going to purchase a 100% het Albino male, and planning to breed them. Will the babys be poss. het, or 50% het? Any good advice on breeding?

Like royalkreations said, the babies will be 50% poss het. This means that there's a 50% chance any one baby out of the clutch will actually be het for albino. Your best bet to get an albino is to either purchase another het or keep all the appropriate gender out of the clutch and breed back to the het, and hopefully one of them is also het for albino.

What if I breed an albino male to my female, 100% hets?

j3nnay Jul 22, 2007 08:34 PM

Yes, they'd all be 100% het for albino.

Ok thanks! How much do you think an albino male would be?

j3nnay Jul 22, 2007 08:36 PM

Check the classifieds They're cheaper at shows but for a more realistic expectation of what you'll be paying for a quality animal, check the classifieds and check the websites of the folks posting on this forum.

All I know of prices right now is that they're more than a struggling college student can afford!

Ok thank you so much! And good luck the the degree!

beladona Jul 22, 2007 08:40 PM

Opps spelled wrong! Good luck with the degree!

For a male albino you're looking at a little less than a grand. I'd just breed your pair and then breed the babies back to their parents. But if you have a grand just lying around, buy the male albino!

beladona Jul 22, 2007 08:42 PM

Man, I wish I had an extra grand! Ok Thank everyone so much!

JSpythons Jul 22, 2007 08:44 PM

Yeah, I know what you mean. I would love to have money I could just blow all on snakes. BTW, when's the next lottery...keep dreaming!!

beladona Jul 22, 2007 08:45 PM

Albino or pied??

beladona Jul 22, 2007 08:44 PM

Wait! What you breed 100% het pied or albino?? Hmm...

JSpythons Jul 22, 2007 08:46 PM

If you breed two hets together, you then have a 25% chance with each egg to produce the visual morph. I hope that answers the question you asked. I couldn't really tell what you meant.

beladona Jul 22, 2007 08:48 PM

Sorry! I mean like should I get 100% albino or pied to breed with my female?

JSpythons Jul 22, 2007 08:54 PM

If your female is just a normal female and you could afford a het pied, get the het pied. It'll take quite some time for you to eventually end up with a pied, but in the end, it might be worth it, it would be for me. If your female is a poss het albino, get the het albino male. You'll end up with albinos in the first breeding(you should, but no guarantees in this hobby). Let me know what snakes you have and if they are het for anything and then I'll recommend what you do from there.

Ok, She is just a normal. And I think im gonna go with pied... I'm going to the Tulsa reptile expo in August and gonna try to get one there.

(My name is josh =P)

JSpythons Jul 22, 2007 09:08 PM

Yeah, I would do that. But if you want to go the really cool route. Get a het pied male and a het albino male, and a normal female from the show. Then you could have albinos and pieds and could end up with albino pieds. But if you don't have the money, get the het pied male.

beladona Jul 22, 2007 09:18 PM

Dont have that kind of money! lol... I cant see how all those people have like the $15,000 morphs! I want one! lol

JSpythons Jul 22, 2007 09:38 PM

Yep, I know what you mean. I'm close to 16 years old and I have to buy all of my snakes. I was lucky enough to get a pair of het albino ball pythons for my 16th birthday(I convinced my parents to let me have them early before they were sold, hehehe, I can always use that excuse because it is true. I got them for $350 and the female was a big yearling. I got them from the East Bay Vivarium in Berkeley, CA which is reportedly the oldest and largest herp store in the U.S. I am so glad that I live somewhat close to them. I just love that store. I wish I had a ton of money to get every morph I want but that won't happen.

royalkreationz Jul 22, 2007 10:55 PM

you could get a 100% het pied male and a 100% het albino male with a cb normal female for less than $400. If you bought all from one vendor, you might get a package deal. Make sure your normal female is a pastel sibling, or some type of co-dom or dom sibling.

northamexotics Jul 23, 2007 09:14 AM

"Make sure your normal female is a pastel sibling, or some type of co-dom or dom sibling."

Why would you say that?!?

royalkreationz Jul 23, 2007 10:19 PM

I think wild caght and captive hatches suck. I would never have one anywhere around my snake room. Plus, I have a normal cb female and a sibling type female, and the subling type females are much better looking. I spoke to Greg Graziani about this when I started acquiring animals, and he was of the same opinion. It is just an opinion, but it's mine and I will buy snakes accordingly, and anyone else can do what they want.
