San Antonio Milksnakes?

royerreptiles Jul 23, 2007 12:31 AM

Do New Mexicans range into/east of San Antonio. My mother in law thought she stumbled across a coral snake (common on our farm) but then she described it as at least the diameter of a nickel and red and black (no yellow). We showed her a poster of a coral and she was positive that was not what she saw. Without having seen it myself, I'm inclined to believe she found a milksnake, but what species would be native to our area?

thanks!

We do get Mexican Milksnakes here in San Antonio, although the snakes here still show some intergradation with the smaller Louisiana Milks of east TX. They aren't common in the city limits but they certaily aren't rare, particularly on the southern side of the city.
