size dimorphism between sexes?

djs27 Jul 23, 2007 12:11 PM

How sexually dimorphic are the borneo short tails in terms of size? I've got one that is a good 5ft long. Would this be a pretty good indicator of sex?

Obviously, probing would be the best option. However, I don't really care about breeding at this point, so it doesn't matter too much to me.

i dont think size is a good indicator. ldydrgn who posts on here, has one of the biggest male borneo's (named fred), that i have ever seen!

Hi, I've had great success sexing larger Borneos visually by the slope of the topline of the tail/back above the vent.
See the picture at:

In this photo the male (in the back) has the gentle gradual slope and the female (front) the slightly abrupt drop-off.
Though obviously not 100% foolproof, it might be worth looking at when other options are not available.
Thanks, Keith Brady

well, probing is always an option, but I've never done it by myself. I've been taught about 10 times, but I've always just let someone else do it.

Thanks for the pics and opinions.
