Albino color change question

LordDreyfus Jul 23, 2007 02:39 PM

Do albinos gain or lose color as they age? I've seen lots of pics of nice white/red babies, but it looks like they gain yellow and maybe lose red as they age?

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

I believe you are right, as that has been my experience.
The one albino baby I have been raising up from my '03 litter was white with bright orange sadles and tail as a baby. His head has stayed very white/light but he is slowly gaining yellow in his body and the saddles are slowly fading away lighter and ligher orange. THe tail still has some good color. His mom is a '98 Kahl strain, she is bright yellow, you can hardly see the saddles on her, they are basically white and she has minimal oranges in her tail.

Some, depending on the line, pastel, coral, etc, do color up and gain more pinks and reds as they age, so it can be variable. Hope that helps!

in case you didn't catch my post down below, Frank is advertising again so his contact info is in the classifieds.

Albinos tend to lose the color into adulthood but the kahl line loses much more color than the sharp line though. The few of the kahls that keep the color are prized possessions. Many snakes look good at 2 years of age but what at about say 6. Hope this helps a little

Most albinos do lose color. The stripe line seems to keep a little more color.
