Here are a few pictures I found quite interesting... egg candling is easy, but taking pictures of it is another story! I hope to do more of these at another time... I enjoyed the challenge and was relatively satisfied with the results of my first attempts.
good healthy veins from three different eggs:

embryo visible on bottom of egg (the shadow pointing upwards in bottom right hand corner of egg is head, shadow on left is part of it's body):

only a few days from hatching! this baby is a the result of a "dinking" project.. the visible "flame" on this one could be promising, but it won't mean anything until development is all done and it hatches as color seems to change quite a bit in the last weeks of development before hatching... only days to go before this clutch hatches to find out for sure though! It's my first clutch to hatch this year!

only a few days from hatching - I'm fairly confident this one is a spider!!

Disclaimer:
Egg candling can be stressful for developing ball python. We do not know of studies on this topic. However, we would think that if the light source is too strong, there could possibly be damage caused to sight of the developing animal. Also, while we took these pictures, we could see the snakes became agitated in the egg, which is a sure indication of stress. We would recommend using low-powered flashlights and to not keep the egg lit up too long to reduce stress on the animal. Try to candle as little as possible (we know how hard that is... lol!)
Let me know what you think!
Regards,
Bristen.
