Baby Mussurana's first feeding.....

LeeBarrie Jul 23, 2007 03:26 PM

I picked up a pair of newborn Mussuranas last week & managed to get them to feed this weekend. I tried them on pinks first with no interest. What they really seem to relish is baby Diamonds. Kind of an expensive meal but what the heck, may as well spoil the little beasties. For those worryworts out there, these babies failed to hatch.

They really are the ultimate colubrid. I absolutely love working with mussuranas. I was very glad last night when my little female ate a hopper that had been bit and refused by some baby ball pythons. She is pretty much an exclusive snake eater that only has interest in rodents that are covered in snake skin and inners. She is specific to what kind of snake too. It has to be new world lol. So you are in luck that yours takes baby diamonds!

Hey Lee,

One of my yearling mussies got to eat a stillborn Madagascar Tree Boa. Like the snake in your pic, it seemed odd watching what would have been a very valuable snake go down the gullet of another.

Hopefully your little mussie won't spend too much time demanding snakes and get onto rodents. My adult mussuranas will take an occasional chicken wing along with their usual rats/mice.

Enjoy 'em.
