Just bought a 14 quart tub,I need a tip

MannyRottie Jul 23, 2007 03:45 PM

I just moved my female spider to a 14 quart tub. I couldn't find any 12 quarts, but this one is small just a little higher. I put a cubby hole(black one) in there with a small water bowl. I think she will do better in here. Question is, how many holes do I drill into the top of it in order to maintain proper ventilation. I know this is a good way to control humidity, but she needs to breathe. I drilled 22 small holes all over the top. They are definitly not big enough for her to get through and they are scattered. The tub is in her cage so even if she escapes it, she will only make it into her old tank. Any tips on how many holes to drill or if I have a sufficient enough. Please and thank you for all the help.

How big are your holes? I would only drill about 5-10 more on the longer sides and that will do it.

I've got about 8 (1/4" holes in my 12 qt tubs and it works great for me! I think you'll be just fine with 22 but if you find you can't maintain a good humidity you may want to cover up some of the holes.

(CJBianco explaining the origins of the BP market.)
"In the beginning Bob created the Ball Python market. And the market was without morph, and wild traits were upon the industry. And Bob said, Let there be morph, and there was morph. And Bob saw the morph, that it was good; and Bob divided the morph from the wild trait. And Bob called the morph Albino, and the wild trait Normal. And the Albino and the Heterozygous Albino were the first investment.

my holes are a little larger than 1/4", they actually are 19/64". So you are saying that 22 of them is fine. I have a temp gun for my temps, but any recommendations on humidity gauges. I bought one of the zoomed gauges and they are cheap and they suck. Is that the only thing out there?

I drill couple of holes on the side instead of the top (since heat travel from top to bottom I do not place holes on the top that would allow heat to get out.)

I put everything in the tub as if the BP was in it (including full water dish) I place the Acu-Rite digital thermometer/hygrometer in the tub (probe on the warm side display on the cool side), I place the tub on the UTH and then wait until I have the proper temps in the tub then I check the humidity, if the humidity is above what is needed 50%-60% I add more holes. Then check again until I get it right
