I have a little guy about 2 months old, he's about 5 in. maybe 6, and I was wondering the appropriate age/length that I should be able to switch him from the cage carpet to the play sand?
THANKS!

I recommend waiting until they're about 8 - 10 inches long. You'll probably get a wide range of age/size recommendations, everyone has their own opinions. Some reputable breeders put their neonates (babies) on sand to begin with. Some recommend waiting till they're about 12 inches.
Have a good one!

Due to political correctness run amuck,
this ol' hillbilly is now referred to as an:
Appalachian American
Also, is that an ok size for him to be? He eats plenty, but I'm worried that he isn't growing enough.
Regarding the sand issue I always wait until 12".
At 2 months 6" is a little small. Below is what I wrote as a response to a similar inquiry.
I took in a dragon last year that the girl swore was a couple months old. It was 4". I had it 7 weeks and when she took it back it was only 5 1/2". I don't know why some grow very slow even with the best of conditions. The important thing is that it's growing but I would still recheck all of your husbandry specs.
The outcome of the dragon I had was that it reappeared here 2 months later at 8". About a week after being here she started growing an inch a week. She has laid 130 eggs so far this year and is the largest dragon I've ever had.
BDLVR ive noticed the same thing as well, some dragons out there are not growing as fast as they should even with top notch conditions. ive pretty much narrowed it down to a few things one being incubation temps. some people out there are raising temps for shorter incubation times which in turn produces smaller dragons. ive seen some come out at 3 inches long, pretty sad looking. and second being the massive inbreeding going on. the popluarity BDs is crazy now and even can breed them pretty easily but dont know enough or just dont do enough research on their dragons bloodlines. so that also causes the smaller dragons and some mutated dragons.
