Just wanted to see how many of you Alterna masters we're trying to get second clutches from your Alterna this year, and if so what kind of luck are you having? Last year was my first year to ever try. I have always been to scared to put too much stress on the females. But this year I got good eggs from a 277 female and a Lajitas female!!!

Last year was the first time i tried doubling one of my alterna females.. She gave me 17 good eggs (my largest clutch to date) in the first clutch and she bounced back well, so i doubled her up and she gave me 10 more good eggs with no problems..

This year the same female gave me 11 good eggs in the first clutch and i am not going to double her this year..

Good job Mike! I never herd of 17 Alterna in one clutch. Thats awesome! My first clutch is like your second. 11 and then 6 on the 277, 9 and then 3 on the Lajitas.

17 was alot.. I was very surprised! before that my largest alterna clutch was 13.. Actually the same Loma Alta female has given me 13 good eggs for the past 5 years straight.. She is very consistant.. Exactly 13 eggs every year! No more.. No less!

Last year when i posted my clutch of 17 up here on the forum someone told me that the record alterna clutch was 22.. I forgot who told me that though??

I doubled up on female this year, last year (her first) she gave me 12, her first clutch this year she gave me 15 which started piping last night, she also bounced back nicely and she gave me 9 good eggs on the second clutch.
