Info on racks?

MannyRottie Jul 23, 2007 06:23 PM

Just curious, I want to eventually have a little ball python collection and want to invest in a rack system. I was looking at a 32 quart tub rack system. Will this be substantial for an adult female since they get larger. If not, please specify how many quarts is substantial for an adult. Thank you

I would say that a 32 qt tub is sufficient for an adult BP. However if you have a giganitic female a 41 qt would work better. I have a friend who houses his adults in 32 qts and they work fine. BTW, when you get a rack, you will never want to go back to glass vivariums. It's addicting, you just can't get enough

Do you think getting 41 quarts for all the racks would be too much...or would the adults like the extra room? Or would it be too overwhelming and they would not like it? Whatcha think? Thanks

I think if you have an abnormally large BP, a 41 qt would be better. I have heard BP's equated to a pet rock. They barely move. I would personally use 32 qts for all of mine just because I think the 41 qts are just too big and awkward and I just don't like them because of their length. However, if you plan on breeding babies, the 32 qts would be too large for the babies/juvies. I would buy Iris tubs if you can. They are just really straight forward and they have good prices. I use the smallest tubs, I think they are about 8 qts for babies. Then for juvies I use the 12.2 qt. Then for subadults/adults I use the CB-70's or the sterilite 32 qts. I hope that helped you and good luck on your rack.

I was thinking about the 32 quart vision racks. The price is really good and it houses 11 32 quart tubs. The only question I have is how many smaller tubs can I use when not using the 32 quart tubs. I will not have 11 adults for a while. Just a bunch of babies I am collecting. So can I replace the 32 quart with 2 smaller tubs on that particular rack? Do you know anything about this? Thanks

I am fairly sure that you can do that. I think you fit two of them half the size of the 32 qt on one level. However I can't guarantee that. I'd either go to their website or call them to see what they say about it. I am not the "vision rack pro" so I think somebody that owns a vision rack would know more. I somewhat remember somebody saying that you could replace a big one for two smaller ones. Here is their link. Good luck.

For adults you want a rack with CB 70 tubs which are about 34" 17.5" x 5.3"

My large females (about 4000g empty) are just about right in a 41 quart sterilite - a 32 quart would be too small for an animal that size. If you plan to breed eventually you'll want the larger tubs as well, as I don't think a 32 quart is comfy for pairing. You'll be ok for a couple years with 32 quarts, though. Males don't really get large enough to require more space anyway.

I hope that helps.
