A recessive at $650??

bpfreak Jul 23, 2007 08:02 PM

I thought it would come next year. That is a drop of about 50% from last year. Seems more like a co-dom.

hhmmmmmmmm...

Someone wasn't desperate for money. They should be a grand at least. I don't think anyone knows where the albino market is right now. I have seen them anywhere from 1200 to 600. I think the better animals are bringing the better money.

I think it is supply and demand. The demand is down due to all the various co-dom snakes out there. People can get into these and make their money back onthe first breeding. I think you will see the price drop from the $1000 mark if they are not being sold or you will find people getting rid of them all together and go with what is being sold.
I personally wish they would stay up there in price as they are a remarkable snake. They COULD go up again if/once bred into some of the co-dom traits.
At least they will not be flooding the market like some of the other morphs out there. WAY too many pastels out there that are not being sold, that is why you can find them for $95 each for as many as you want. THis was on the classifieds this past week. Rather sad as it is a great looking snake, just too darn many out there.

Just a thought.

but, that being said, I am going to try to produce about a dozen pastel females to put the gene into some of the other morphs. I like the pastels, and am going to get a blonde from Brian sharpe this year. I want them to make pastel fire balls. I have one big girl, but need more to make bees and other stuff. I think that you are going to see people getting rid of spiders, pinstripes and pastels and replace them with bees and lemon blasts. two morphs in one snake is always better than one.

I forgot one point. Look at the Pied market. They have dropped considerably over the last two years. It is not because everyone has them and you see so many up for sale. It is because nobody is committed to a long term project like the recessive traits.
I remember when all you could find were Pieds at $7500 up to who knows what. You can now find them, and not just with a spot of white, for under $2600 and not from a no name person.

Back to Albinos for one last second. There is an add up there now for abinos for $900. There are a pair of hets for $375/males for $95! I remember when you could not buy hets for what the albinos are going for now. This was not that long ago either.

Have a good night!

"The demand is down due to all the various co-dom snakes out there."

I agree to an extent. I think it has to do with there being so many ball morphs, period, regardless of genetic inheritance.

Plenty of affordable choices for anyone wanting a non-normal Ball Python.
$7500 Albinos and $25000 Pieds are no longer the only game in town...

How bout them Het Reds, eh? They came down quickly....like in the last 7 days. lol

I've seen most Albino sales from 900-1200. The ones selling them for much less are just looking to move them before the next guy. To drop them further than that is a real shame. If you average the prices, you can see they haven't dropped too greatly from last year. There will be breeders who need to make that rent payment, but that doesn't mean the rest of us have to follow suit.
