How do I get bumblebees?

MannyRottie Jul 24, 2007 12:35 AM

I have a female spider. Do I need a male pastel, pastel jungle, or super pastel? Also do any of the pastels have to be produced by 2 pastels. I know a breeder that has pastel males in which both parents were pastels. Then I know of others that have pastels where only one of the parents was pastel and the other was a normal. Thanks

spider x pastel = bumblebee
spider x super pastel = killer bee

at the very least a pastel. your choice whichever is best for you. if you do it with a super you'll have a much better chance and a higher bee percentage. supers bred to normals make all pastels so every one should have the pastel gene then about half on average will also share the spider gene (bumblebee) but if you went with a pastel the half should be pastel on average so the average 4 egg clutch should be 1 normal 1 pastel 1 spider and one bumblebee, where if it were a super pastel a 4 egg clutch should turn on 2 pastels and 2 bumblebees.
I'm very sure I'm right but I've been wrong before so any corrections are welcome.

To get a killer bee you would need a Bumble bee bred with a pastel (or bumble bee x super pastel.) Both parents would need to carry the pastel gene. Only one parent would need the spider gene.
