My roommate seems to think that cedar shavings will harm my ball python. To date I have used bark chips. Anyone heard of cedar shavings being harmful????

that odor that makes cedar smell good is toxic to most reptiles. I wouldn't chance it. besides, you can get cheaper cypruss mulch which may look more "natural".

your friend is right. cedar contains volitile oils. they are highly aromatic and cause alot of lung/mouth/throat irritation when used constantly, theyve also been known to cause cancers.i dont even know why pet stores still sell cedar, but honestly, avoid it...no need to endanger your loved ones lives...
