Nothing like coming home to find all the rats you were dethawing on the counter scattered around the kitchen, their heads eaten off.

The most likely culprit...

The "likely culprit" looks like one of those rats was cryogenically frozen and came back to life!!

There you go, should never leave thawing rats and a fox left unattended

I know the type of fox you have there but the name just eludes me right now....Frenwick? Finnic? greee...I hate it when its jsut on the tip of your tongue,...but won't come out.

Thats my garbage disposal! A little zombie-like, since she only likes to eat the heads/brains of animals she comes across.

And i know it was her, because our male is more discriminating in his tastes, and is terrified of rodents of all types.

Fennec foxes. You'll have to check your local county laws. I know in Florida as a whole you need a Class III license http://floridaconservation.org/permits/, but I believe they are easy to get.

If you feel like taking all those steps, make sure to find a GOOD breeder (most will ship anywhere thats legal in the US), as there are a lot of crappy ones out there, and a lot of scammers. Only buy them as young kits that have been bottlefed. We got one of ours from a crappy breeder, one from a good one.. the difference right off was obvious. And youll have to keep them away from your rodents and snakes.

Fennec foxes..that is what they are called

Very cute and odd foxes...but like any wild animal sold as a pet...they are still wild, but learned to live with people. So they can bite and can bite hard, but with proper training and socialization, I am sure they make great pets..as long as you don't leave them alone with thawing rats

Ha, they are a handful. They're quite on their way to domestication though, and some states even consider them as such in laws. Ours have never shown agression towards people, and I figure the risk you take with them is the same as any dog. Most don't bite, but theres always that risk with anything that has teeth. They're mischevious.. like a puppy that never grows up. Like dogs, they wag their tails when they're excited to see you. They also bark.

Fox domestication is interesting, especially if you look at the russian domestication experiment. Pretty much domesticated a group of foxes in 50 years time.. to the point their ears flopped, they wagged their tail, their coat colors changed, and barked like dogs. I suppose the same process wolves took to dogs. I wonder how many animals considered wild will be common pets in the next few hundred years.

actually, ripped open the heads, ate the brain, left the rest. We used to give her pinkie mice, but stopped because we thought her only eating the brain was wasteful.
