substrate question for waters

jojay327 Jul 24, 2007 02:47 PM

Does anyone have a mix that they are happy with, I can't find the decomposed granite that pro exotics speaks highly of. Currently I use a mix of natural topsoil, cypressmulch and peatmoss, seems to work good and burrows great. I know it takes a little trial and error to find that perfect blend but that is my goal, would love some input....(sorry if this question has been asked a million times) Thanks Jason

I've heard of leaflitter being just as highly talked of as dirt for indo species. But I haven't kept any indo monitor species at all, so you may want somebody else's opinion.

Cheers,
Ryan

I think you’re correct, leaf litter is a good way to go. Cheers

i am not a fan of peat, but your mix should still work well, better than the DG for this species. to start from scratch, i would do more a topsoil/sand combo, and regardless, for Indo species, try and do a leaflitter ground cover as well : )
