It's getting worse, MUCH worse.

FrostDragon Jul 24, 2007 04:43 PM

He's getting worse. The impactions worse now, and he's not eating. I've been giving him some Mineral Oil to help, and it did for a while. Here's the entire story:

Sora was impacted for a time, as you can see the Topic "OMG HELP! I CAN'T LOSE SORA!!" Yea. After a while he got better, it all passed through and it seemed like everything was better. But then he didn't want to eat. After a while he started to eat, but I wanted to be careful so I only fed him about 2 crickets in a span of about a week. (Basically, he only ate two crickets in one week) A little after that, he got impacted again, which brings us to the present. He's impacted now, and I'm leaving tonight for a week, although I have confidence in him that he will be ok. I've been feeding him Yogurt and water, and I assure you he is drinking on his own. In the past he escaped and went with no food or water as a baby, for 5 months or more, and he was alive. I don't think that a week will hurt him with water. I'm going to leave a few crickets in there anyways, just in case, but I'm really worried and I still can't take him to the vet. I've been giving him water baths (soaking him in warm water for 20 minutes, but don't worry, I would make sure that it wouldn't cool on him either.) And, he just shed about yesterday and he ate off the skin, which is good too because that will help him last and it's good for him, right?

Thanks, for the help, in advance. I will be gone for a week but when I come back I'm hoping that reading your replies will be the first thing I do.

hello! i feel really bad for you because i know your parents wont let you take him to the vet, i remember those days....anyhow, this is wut i do when i get an adoption that i know has been living on sand or stuff that could cause impaction. i of course keep them on paper towels and make sure they have a temp at about 90-92 and never gets lower then 82 on cool side (helps the stomach). i also only offer them water. i hand feed them everynight with ENSURE (the vanilla shake for old people) im sure you can find it at your grocery store. i just drip it on their nose and wait for them to start licking and make them get a good amount down. ensure has all the vitamins and calcium in it. i do this for like 2 weeks until everything has passed, that way no more solid stuff can get stuck. quite the yogurt, but why the heck is sora impacted in the first place? your substrate? you took him off whatever caused the problem right?

Well although I have only heard of this happening, and never encountered it myself, this is what I would do...

First off, once you notice your leo eating its subtrate, thats a bad sign, change subtrate immediately. (My leos never had a taste for subtrates, not even my baby leos have discovered this.) For now, only my baby leos are in Calcium Subtrate.Paper towels are the way to go, I reccommend it to you and to anyone due to impaction problems. Doesnt happen to all leos but why risk it.
And to add to that, if you dont have paper towels, no subtrate is better than a subtrate thats causing impaction.

As for no eating problem, try diffrent foods, try mealworms, they are irristable to most reptiles and are plump with goodness. Dust and Mist the leos food, the object is to make your leo flush out all the subtrate out of the leos system, make sure you mist because it will also provide water to help "flush" your leos stomach.

Good Luck and please keep us updated on how your leo does. =]

On a side note... if your going on vaction, dont leave crickets in your enclosure. If they dont get eaten they may start chewing on your leo. Use mealworms instead. They should stay right in the bowl. Have you tried mealworms? My leo is to lazy to chase after crickets and wont eat if thats all I offer. Just a side note and suggestion.

what substrate are you using? you said "he got impacted again" does that mean you put him back on the substrate that caused all the problems? if it keeps on happening put him on something different! like papertowel or newspaper. i would just work through it and feed him crix, not superworms. hard to digest, plus he allready has digestive problems. if he still doesn't eat you might have to force feed, there is appetite stimulants you can buy though. good luck!
