New to GBKs, a couple of questions...

Python11 Jul 24, 2007 08:15 PM

Hello all -

I picked up a proven pair of GBKs from Peace River Herps in Orlando a couple of weeks ago. The female is a '99 cb, whose grandmother was wc from the Pandale dirt road. The male was produced from stock caught on 277 outside of Del Rio.

I am still reading a lot and figuring out what locales are what.

I'd like to pick up another breedable female (or pair) when I'm at Daytona next month and was wondering if anyone here could point me toward particular folks they know will be setting up there. Also, if there is anything pattern-wise or locale wise that would merit my extra attention, I'd appreciate it. I have experience with other colubrids and green tree pythons, but I think I've got the GBK bug pretty bad. I'll post photos when I can re-size them smaller.

Thanks.

There is a great (fairly new & very reasonably priced) book by Merker available that has some of the best locality specific photos you can get in one place.. You can get the book right here on kingsnake in the books classifieds..

With so much alterna variation it's hard to say what you should buy in Daytona.. What traits do you like??

Actually, I've been interested in most of the patterns, but if I had to pick favorites I would have to say the dark morphs, the all black and gray ones like your second photo and ones with the "high white" outlines.

That being said, I think I can find something I like in just about all of the morphs and localities. I'm probably preaching to the choir here!

Thanks,
