Help! Need reptile vet in Charlotte, NC

ksterry Jul 25, 2007 12:23 AM

I have a youngish female chuck who laid all her eggs but one. It's stuck inside, has hardened, and I need help from a good vet. Does anyone know of a competent reptile vet in Charlotte, NC? I know one vet here who is willing to try to help but admits his reptile OB/GYN experience is very limited. He tried valiantly to save one young egg-bound girl and lost her. This time, this other female is in much better shape because she's deposited her clutch (except for the one egg), is eating again, and has regained some of the lost weight. However, I can see the egg shape in her side everytime she relaxes and lays flat, and the hard egg is very prominent upon palpatation. Trouble's brewing ... time to deal with it.

What did the vet say about Oxytocin? Can you try that??

Hey,

My name is John Nicholson and I am also here in Charlotte. I am Eve's favorite lurker but I am also a long time chuck keeper, horse farmer, dog breeder etc. I deal mostly with large animal vets but I would be glad to ask them about a qualified herp doctor. I've been lucky so far and have not needed much in the way of a seasoned herp specialist. It also helps to be married to an ex vet tech!! If it would help I'll ask my vet contacts and try and get you what I can by tommorow at this time.

Good luck and talk to you soon.

Yeah John, it would be great if you could ask your vet tech spouse if she knows any herp vets. John C. wrote me out how the oxytocin/calcium injections are done and I can give those directions to the vet who helped me out before, but it would be even better to take my egg-bound momma along with the meds directions to someone who's really comfortable working with chucks. Thanks for any info you can find!

MK: We recently brought our Baby Iguana, MorGan, to see Dr. Breckwoldt and he was amazing with her. He really knew what he was doing and made us, and her, feel very much at ease. I would recommend him to anyone. (07/11/01)

Hey John,

Thanks so much for the names! Monroe's an easy drive for us so we'll make a visit to that first name on your list. The vet sounds very competent. What a relief to have his name!

I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks a bunch!
Sue
