Two Headed Carpet Python

AnthonyCaponetto Jul 25, 2007 06:19 PM

This isn't exactly what I was expecting when I opened the incubator last week.

They seem to be totally healthy...both flicking their tongues, strong as an ox (40 grams!) and the one up front is already trying to bite me.

To answer the inevitable questions...

"They" are a female. I have no idea if they'll live. I have no idea if they'll be able to eat. I have no idea about anything else because I've never hatched a two-headed snake before.

Oh yeah, they also have identical "frown face" head patterns...

Anthony,
That's amazing!

If you can keep them going, you could probably get it/them showcased at a zoo!

Anthony,
The two headed carpet we hatched out last year did just fine for about 4 months and then one day kicked the bucket.
Yours looks better formed and more like it has better chances of living a good life.
Good luck with it!

What are you going to do with it if it lives?

personally I would never let it go, but there are a few zoos out there with hefty rewards for healthy bicephalic snakes.

And if it skeeves you out and you just have to find a home, I guess i would consider taking "them" off your hands.

very cool, and good luck.

This subject came up on another forum. I haven't decided anything yet, but because it's not something I can reproduce, I would lean toward selling it.

It's easy to say you'd keep it until you're actually forced to make the choice between a pile of money and a two headed snake. Suddenly the two-headed snake becomes expensive, even though it didn't really cost you anything. Hopefully that makes sense.

To be really honest...I think bicephalism is interesting, but I'd rather have a nice, big Boelen's python if I wanted a cool pet snake to look at.
