HELP: Egg-Bound female

jsawyer Jul 26, 2007 12:20 AM

We found Goldie (F, Crested) in the corner of the cage, where she had dug out most of the bark substrate. Her mouth was full of bark, and she was lethargic and agravated. I hadn't seen her in a few days, and she is BIG. She laid 2 clutches of 2 eggs each a month and 2.5 months ago (first clutch hatched, kids are doing well on crickets/CGD). She's not. I waited a day to see if she would lay eggs, but no dice, so I picked her up, removed bark from her mouth and fed her water and CGD by syringe (after I opened her mouth, she got a taste, and ate .25cc GCD by licking the syringe.)

I repeated this a day later (.5CC this time). Her energy is slightly improved, but she's still very fat (all-over) and not herself. She has had a bowel movement...

She prefers to lay flat on the ground of her enclosure, but she does occasionally move.

What can I do?

Anybody know a good herp vet in San Diego that won't break the bank? (money's tight)

bark is not a good substrate for cresteds. do you have a lay box in the cage? if so, what type of media are you using in it? are you keeping it moist? does it have some type of hide over it for privacy? she may be impacted if she ate some bark as well.

She has laid in the past in the bark, behind a couple of fake plants. Since then we've supplied a dark, covered box with an opening she'll fit... THe substrate in there is damp vermiculite. Given her size, and the fact that she has gone poo, I think it's an egg issue. We'll be visiting the vet tomorrow.
