Humidity

BlackDahlia Jul 26, 2007 01:47 AM

Yesterday i took my snakes to have exam
and the vet had some tips for keeping humidity higher in my ball pythons cage.
He said to water down the aspen all over enough that condensation will form on the glass. I tried that, and it works wonders with the humidity, but im worried about the spread of bacteria, and scale rot. So is this a safe way to keep humidity up? or would you reccomend making a humidity box?

Constantly moist warm substrate will of course serve as a perfect habitat for mold and other nasty decomposers. Scale rot will also become a serious concern. If you are using this practice only during the snakes shedding cycle though you will be fine. If the humidity is so high water is condensing and dripping down the sides of the tub/tank you are using far too much water.

Thank you. Ill make a humid box or simply wait until shedding time.

Do you have it in an aquarium? I now have a rack system, but when I did keep my ball pythons in an aquarium, keeping high enough humidity was a problem. I put a clear plastic/glass hard cover with holes in it over the screen top and that helped kept the humidity high enough.
